Singing Bowls are struck or rubbed around the rim with a playing mallet to produce a blend of harmonic resonances and vibrations. ''Shou'' is the ancient symbol for longevity. It is commonly used in classical Chinese and Tibetan art. THI produces elegant hand-made paper products for Tibet Collection using the inner bark of the Daphne Cannabina bush - locally known as lokta. Lokta is found at altitudes above 6 - 500 ft. in almost all the Nepalese Himalayan region. It has a unique characteristic of regenerating itself every 4-5 years after the bark has been peeled and cut away for making paper. Natural and chemical dyes - as well as other organic materials - are used in assorted combinations to create a vibrant range of colors and textures. Lokta is harvested for the suppliers in sustainably managed forest areas - thus preserving the fragile forest ecology of Nepal while providing gainful employment to local mountain people.
