Medea Benjamin When thousands of innocent people were killed in the tragic events of September 11 - the American people - the United States government - and humanitarian organizations around the world responded with incredible compassion to assist the families of the victims. But what about the innocent victims in Afghanistan who lost their lives during the US-led military campaign? Shouldn't our hearts and helping hands go out to those people who were every bit as innocent as the victims of the September 11 attack? Medea Benjamin frequently travels to and documents human rights violations in the Third World. She's co-founder and co-director of Global Exchange - a San Francisco-based organization. She has written extensively on international issues. Medea has recently led delegations to Afghanistan to investigate the situation and is campaigning for an Afghan Victims Fund. In 2000 - she was the Green Party candidate for the US Senate in California. (audio cassette - 74 minutes - 2002 - Recorded at KBOO - Portland Oregon)
