Njoki Njehu Third World countries are reeling under staggering debt. The World Bank and the IMF impose punitive austerity programs which result in massive cuts in vital social services like education and health. Much of the debt was accrued by despots who lined their own pockets. Nearly half of the money due is from thirty destitute African countries. Jubilee 2000 - a worldwide movement - is calling for the cancellation of all Third World debt.
